While there are some good
waterproof roof coatings on the market today, we would like to humbly
submit that our Hawaiian SunGuard should be placed at the very top tier
of the quality pyramid. Do any other coating that you may be
considering have these qualities?
Does
it contain the amazing Lipacryl (R) additive from Rohm and Haas that
helps prevent water-based coatings from peeling up when they are
exposed to standing water on the roof?
 |
Can your coating do this?
We took an oridinary cardboard shoebox, coated it with our full fabric
reinforced HSG system, and then filled it with water in February 2006.
It's still holding strong. Need proof? Visit out showroom at 35 Kainehe St. in Kailua and see for
yourself. |

In the past, we have seen many water-based coatings that weather well
in the sun but that break down quickly when saturated with water.
Follow our simple instructions for protecting these “ponding areas”
with our CoolFab reinforcing fabric and your roof will last
much longer. If you think your roof has excessive ponding water, let us
examine it free of charge to see if our system is right for you.
Does
it contain highly reflective ‘White Titanium’, which repels the suns
ultra violet rays?
Don’t settle for
less expensive ‘Yellow Titanium’ which isn’t as reflective or durable,
and can turn yellow over time. ‘White Titanium’ costs more, but it’s
worth it.
Does
it contain ceramic microspheres that have similar heat reflective
properties as the tiles on the space shuttle?
Ceramic coatings
that insulate were developed by NASA to combat the 2300 degree
temperatures that the space shuttle experiences during reentry. The
micro-spheres are hollow, and all gas has been removed, which creates a
vacuum. In effect, they act as miniature thermos bottles. The ceramic
composition enables the micro-spheres to block heat radiation and
dissipate heat rapidly, preventing heat transfer through the coating.
Does
it contain the same high quality ingredients through out the entire
system, or does it have a cheaper base coat with only the premium
coating on the surface? If so, then what happens when the topcoat
eventually wears off and the cheaper coating (which is often a
different color) is exposed?
Hawaiian SunGuard
uses the same high quality throughout the entire system. It makes it
easier to apply and you don’t end up with unused buckets of a different
color and quality.
Can it
be tinted to a variety of beautiful colors free of charge?
While we love the look of a
bright reflective white roof, there are many situations where a colored
coating is desirable. This is especially true if you are on a second
story and the glare from below may interfere with your beautiful,
million dollar view. Or if you have a conventional asphalt shingle roof
and want to blend in with the neighborhood. No problem! You will find
that the glare can be cut by using any of our recommended light and
medium colors from our color chart. We will tint to these beautiful
pastel colors for free so as to encourage you not to go too dark. Why?
Because the darker you go the more heat will be drawn into the system
and into your home. If you want to custom tint to darker colors, we
will be happy to do that for an additional charge.
Does
it have a strong reinforcing fabric that allows the coating to expand
and contract without cracking?
If we were to
name one of the most important ingredients in any coating system, it
would be the reinforcing fabric. Our CoolFab is a heavy duty
polyester fabric that makes for a very durable, stretchable
waterproofing system. For the longest lasting roof, we strongly
recommend that the entire surface be reinforced with the 40” fabric and
then coated with 4 to 5 gallons per 100 Sq. Ft. of Hawaiian SunGuard.
This is our Full Fabric Renewable Roof. It may be the last roof you
will ever need. Simply recoat with a topcoat every 7 to 15 years, as
needed, using only a fraction of the original material.
Does
it come with an experienced applicator who will deliver the material to
your site and advise you on how to put it down—free of charge?
With a minimum
order of 5 buckets on Oahu, we do just that. By the way, closely
examine our representatives. They aren’t your average salesperson. They
usually have our coating stuck under their fingernails and on their
clothes. They may not be the best dressers, but they get down on their
hands and knees and work with our coating day in and day out. They know
their stuff. Neighbor islands, call us Toll Free at (877) 605-COOL for
details on our free shipping offer to you.
Are long leak-free warranties available when installed by approved
applicators?
The Standard
Limited Leak-Free Warranty for a Full Fabric Renewable Roof is
7 years for qualifying roofs when installed by an Approved Licensed
Contractor. This is the legal limit that any Contractor is allowed to
Warranty their work under Hawaii State Law. This law was passed years
ago under the assumption that many roofers could not honor the 20 to 50
year Warranties which were popular at the time.
However, the State does allow Product Manufacturers to issue longer
warranties. If you have a residential or commercial building of 3,000
Sq. Ft. or larger you may qualify for the Manufacturer’s 10 Year
Limited Labor and Material Warranty. There is an additional expense
paid to have the Manufacturer’s inspectors come out to your jobsite and
carefully inspect the application. This is a popular option for many
homes and businesses. Please call us at (808) 262-ROOF for details.
